Historically important ore mineral of zinc and manganese. Now primarily prized as a collector mineral for the iconic Franklin NJ three-mineral assemblage with willemite and zincite. Designated 2023 New Jersey state mineral. The non-fluorescent black of franklinite provides the contrast that makes these specimens so visually dramatic under UV.
