Black opal is a dark-bodied variety of opal, a hydrated silica mineraloid, not a crystalline mineral species. It is distinct from the generic Opal catalog entry by body-tone grade. Doublet and triplet composites must be disclosed. Dark-body Ethiopian opal is not Lightning Ridge black opal. Claim Lightning Ridge origin only with documentation. Collectors may keep it for study and display. It is not medical care.
